Imagine a group of people who have lived their entire lives chained inside a dark cave. They can only see the cave wall in front of them. Behind them, there is a fire, and objects passing in front of it cast shadows on the wall. If this is the only reality they know, what do you think they believe about the shadows? How do you think they perceive the world?
